Abstract

This study aims to find and critically analyze the first principle of harmony in the wayang performance’s concept of pathet. The wayang performance’s concept of pathet as a material object which is analyzed from the perspective of the ontology as a formal object. The methodical elements of the study used include interpretation, induction, and deduction, internal coherence, holistic, historical continuity, idealization, comparison, heuristics, inclusive or analogous language, and description. The results of the study indicate that pathet is a concept that has an important position in the performance of wayang. Philosophically, pathet has many function and meaning. First, pathet is a representation of the structure of wayang performances. Second, pathet is the reference to the sound space in musical instruments. Third, pathet is the atmosphere builder or atmosphere of wayang performances. Fourth, pathet is a guide to the mastermind in building the aesthetic of wayang performance. Pathet, in addition, to have a function also consist of philosophical meaning. First, pathet as an aesthetic manifestation in puppet shows. Second, pathet is a symbol of the stages in human life. Third, pathet as a representation of the cosmic cycle. The investigation of pathet from the perspective of ontology yields the following conclusions. First, the concept of pathet is a representation of the concept of harmony in wayang performance. “Rasa” is the first principle of harmony in the wayang performance’s concept of pathet. This “rasa” has a spiritual dimension so that the ontology of harmony, in this case, is spiritualism. The dynamics of harmony moves with the law of “empan papan”, towards the ultimate goal of reality, namely the perfection of life. Ontology of harmony in the pathet of wayang performances shows monistic-spiritualistic thinking.

Abstract

The study of Insan Kamil (the perfect man) is one of the important themes in the world of Sufism. One of the evidence that could be peculiarly noted is the written books of Sufism. Of those books that specifically concern into this theme is Abd al-Karim al-Jili with his prominent work Al-Insan Al-Kamil fi Ma'rifat al-Awakhir wa al-Awa'il. In his text, the outlook of Insan Kamil is different from the other studies, such as in the works of Ibn 'Arabi, Al-Hallaj, Al-Suhrawardi, and At-Tirmidhi. Although Al-Jili is not a pioneer of the study of Insan Kamil, his concept, which is different from its predecessors, is more comprehensive. As a comparative study of predecessor notion, the work of Ibn 'Arabi is taken as an example of Al-Jili modification. Based on the simple and brief readings, it can be found that the concept of Insan Kamil initiated by al-Jili is a theological notion, and Insan Kamil initiated by Ibn 'Arabi philosophical patterned.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relevance and continuity of classical Islamic thought in Nusantara Malay Islamic intellectualism, expected to be useful in adding to the treasures of the study of history and intellectual thought while also contributing to the preservation of scientific traditions in Indonesia. This study uses a type of qualitative research with a library research model with a historical approach. The data collection techniques in the study are heuristic techniques, verification, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study conclude that first, the process of the intellectual tradition of Malay Archipelago Islam is inseparable from the process of transmission and diffusion of Islamic teachings and ideas always involving a kind of "intellectual networks", both those formed among ulama and intellectuals as a whole. Second, the relevance of classical Islamic thought in Nusantara Malay Islamic intellectualism can be seen in the existence of the two largest organizations in Indonesia, the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) whose intellectualism led to the Jabariah sect and Muhammadiyah whose intellectualism was directed towards Muta'zilah. Third, the continuity of classical Islamic thought in Nusantara Malay Islamic intellectualism gave rise to Malay-archipelago modernist thinkers closer to the Mu'tazilah's historical establishment than to the traditionalist historical stance.

Abstract

Fraud spread in various social spaces. With the development of information and communication technology, it also accelerates the spread of false news, which must be overcome so that it does not become a serious problem in people's lives. This study wants to answer: (1) how far the hoax known in Aceh's adat law? (2) how is to handle the hoaxes using adat law perspectives in Aceh? This study aims to describe hoax context recognized in adat law in Aceh and analyze how to handle the hoaxes using adat law the perspective in Aceh community. The method used to answer the question of this study is socio-legal. The study found that the hoax is known in Aceh’s adat law. The existence of hoax can be found in the Aceh context, through various terms known locally. Handling the hoaxes is carried out by customary legal mechanisms and uses adat sanctions and is tried by adat institution functionaries. The article concludes that hoaxes are known in the local community which can be solved by traditional methods in the community itself. It is recommended that the settlement of hoaxes especially small cases, can only be used through adat law concept.

Abstract

To a certain extent, globalization has provided religions with opportunities to play their roles more extensively and encounter each other more openly than before. In addition to its advantages, this has created a tendency of rigid and exclusive ways of religiosity among different religious believers when they encounter each other or with other cultures. For most believers, this is a way of claiming religious identities, which should be maintained and defended. This article deals with what Islam as a system of belief has contributed to religious pluralism. Using the thematic method of interpretation, it focuses on its analysis on Quranic verses of Ahl al-Kitab, a term that refers to People of the Book. The article argues that from the Quranic perspective, religious pluralism is valid and constitutes one of the main principles of Quranic teachings. Religions of People of the Book differ in terms of syir’ah and minhaj, but they at the same time share a substantial similarity in terms of din, which is seen in their shared doctrine of monotheism (tawhid). To this monotheism, Alquran calls other religions to find a common term. This inclusive religiosity plays as the basis of how Alquran responds to other religions: it acknowledges their validity as systems of belief and emphasizes the shared point as seen in its response to the opposition of People of the Book in the early Islam (Jews and Christians).

Abstract

The Ampel Mosque Surabaya East Java Indonesia is a historic mosque that became one of the centers of the spread of Islam in Java by Sunan Ampel. The mosque is a historic site to get attention in care and maintenance on the physical components of the building to prevent the occurrence of damage. This study aims to evaluate the quality of maintenance of Ampel Surabaya mosque building. This study considers social-culture aspects and technical aspects as an instrument to support building maintenance and reliability enhancement. The quality of the maintenance affects the reliability of mosque building construction. The evaluation is done by considering the user's perception of the facility to worship in the mosque of Ampel. The method used is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The result of the research shows four variables that make up the model namely:  Structural Component, Architectural Component as exogenous manifest variable 2, Quality Maintenance, and Construction Reliability. Relationships between variables indicate a strong level of significance. The path diagram model obtained is explained that the variability of Maintenance Quality is explained by Structural Component and Architectural Component of 81.6%, while Construction Reliability can be explained by Structural Component, Maintenance Quality, and Architectural Component variability of 87.2%. It can be concluded that the influence relationship in the overall model is positive. Ampel mosque management can perform maintenance efforts of mosque building components based on evaluation results and models to calculate the quality of maintenance and reliability of mosque building construction.

Abstract

One of the rules of the validity of the Prophet's traditions is to avoid shāẓ. The definition of shāẓ according to al-Shafi'ī (150-204 H) is a single narrator whose history of hadith contradicts with many other narrators. The majority of hadith scholars such as Ibn al-Ṣalāh (577-643 H), chose the definition over the others. This article focuses on searching the bibliographic source for the definition of shāẓ al-Shāfi’ī with an intertext approach. The object is the works of al-Shafi'ī in the field of hadith and a variety of hadith science literature which includes the definition of shāẓ. This study shows that hadith experts generally agree with the definition of shāẓ al-Shafi'ī because it is easier to apply than other definitions. However, they did not clearly mention the title of al-Shafi'i's essay which he referred to, causing misunderstanding as if the source of the definition of shāẓ was Ibn al-Ṣalāḥ, not al-Shafi'ī. One of these misconceptions stems from the unclear reference of Ibn al-Ṣalāḥ himself. This study shows that the bibliographic results of al-Shafi'i's works and transmission lines of definitions are found that the definition of al-Shafi is not found in al-Risalah, but is sourced from al-Manafib al-Shafi al-Baihaqī
